Christmas Front Porch

So I need to put a disclaimer here. If you stopped by expecting to see a beautiful grand porch you will be bitterly disappointed. Well, maybe not bitterly but you will be disappointed. You see, we have more of a, for lack of a better word, stoop. Just a small little spot to wipe your feet before you go into the house. We plan on working on this area some day but for now, I do what I can with it. There is enough room for one pot so I gathered all the fixins to fill it up with greens and birch logs and lights to make my Christmas front porch. It was a pretty easy project but I thought I’d show you how I began.

We did remove all the dirt and I put my birch logs in. I then stuffed in two blocks of wet florist foam (I needed something to keep the white-painted willow sticks in). Then I just started putting in my greens. So simple. I used mostly evergreens that I got for free from Lowes and a few others that I picked up from the nursery. Next came the jumbo ornaments. I found a few inexpensive plastic ones at Home Depot. The only problem was that they were very lightweight and we have some really windy days here, so we tied an old hinge to it and hid it in the greens. Problem solved!

Next I just layered some white lights around the greens and called it done. We added the garland from Hobby Lobby over the door last year and I put white lights in it this year.

Let’s look at Finn in his dapper bow tie and not my dirty porch. 😉  Besides the fact that it’s always wet during the winter because the sun never hits it, it needs a major power washing.

My front door wreath was a mess this year with the ribbon faded from sun and the berries losing their color. I didn’t want to buy a new one so I just removed the bow and the berries and added a few stems of Ilex I got for $5 from Trader Joe’s. I added a piece of ribbon, that apparently needs to be retied ;), and I have a new wreath.

That’s my front porch, small and simple. Once we get the porch fixed up and the flowerbeds planted, it will look so much better. There’s always something to do.

What do you have, a stoop or a porch? Do you go all out with decorations or are you into more simple decor?

I hope you have a great weekend. Thanks for stopping by.

    1. That’s all we could find at the time. LOL It works though. 😉

      Thanks B.

  1. Oh your “porch” looks great! I love how you got your puppy in the shot. We had a wooden stoop at out first house and when we decided to move one of my requirements was to have a front porch. I am happy to say I have a real front porch. It is not big at all but I am thrilled to be able to have a small porch swing on it. We never had one growing up, in fact I don’t remember anyone having a front porch in my neck of the woods. You make do with what you have and you did a great job! A very welcoming entrance for the holidays!

    1. Thanks Lisa. I’m so envious though. I would love to have a porch swing. I’ve always gone into a new house wanting a front porch but other things win out. I’ll get one some day. 😉 Yours sounds great though.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you have a Happy Holiday!

    1. Awww, thank you Deb, such a lovely comment. My life is very normal (is it that obvious?). 😉

I always appreciate when you stop in to visit. Thanks!

  2. Your stoop looks beautiful…love the way you filled your planter! Finn is such a cutie!!

    1. Thanks Martina! The planter was actually one of my easier decorations to put together (Finn however could care less). 😉

Thanks so much for stopping in to visit.

  3. Hey K! I think the stoop looks great! I love the garland around the door and Finn just adds to the decor with his cute red bow! My hubby has been having some medical issues so we have been busy with that and time just flies by! Sad to say, my front “porch” which is just a walk from the side garage man door to the front door does not have anything on it like it did for the fall. I have a wreath on the door. I don’t know if I will get the time to decorate it for Christmas though. Right now it has a leftover bale of hay and a shepard’s hook from my fall decor! lol
So although yours is simple it beats mine! Have a great week!

    1. Thanks so much MJ. I tried to add a little bit more but dang that porch is small and we need to keep the one side clear for the mail carrier. Oh well, it is what it is.

So sorry to hear about your husband. I hope it’s not serious. It’s no fun to deal with stuff like that at Christmas. Decorating isn’t that important when you are dealing with health issues. At least you won’t have to spend time taking stuff down and putting it away. 😉

My best to you and hope for your husband’s good health. Have a great week!

  4. I, like you, have a stoop. I am still getting organized in my new home and the front yard needs major shrub and tree removal. I also need a new front door because this one is metal and rusted do to salt air. All that is to say I haven’t decorated it but hope to be ready next year. I like your stoop and your dog is so cute. Thanks for sharing.

    1. We have so much to do that it’s overwhelming at times. I think when you move into a new-to-you house it takes a couple of years to get it where you want. We loved living by the coast but the salt air is so hard on a house. Our front door was wood but the others were all metal and needed to be replaced too.

Thank you so much for stopping in to see my stoop Christmas decor. Have a great weekend!

  5. It’s lovely! And your pup is so cute with his little bow! 😀
We don’t have a porch at all (yay apartments!) but we do have a fenced in back “porch”, so I ought not to complain about nothing out the front!

    1. Thanks so much!

I like to look at pictures of how people decorate their porches but I would be more than ok without one (one less thing to decorate). 😉

Thank you, as always, for visiting. Have a great weekend!

  6. Finn is the best decoration 🙂 I have a porch but I still decorate simply. An antique cream can filled with lighted branches. That’s it! Usually I do a fresh garland around the door or a wreath, either purchased from local fundraisers. Missed my chance this year Oh, I also have used a potted evergreen the last few years but I never did get it hauled out of the cutting garden. It’s still in it’s pot which I am sure would need cleaning. This broken wrist sure has limited what I can do, oh well!!

    1. Finn is the best decoration. He just didn’t want to sit still for me. 😉 Your porch decor sounds lovely.

I’m so sorry to hear about your broken wrist. Hope you are healing well. I broke my foot in SF (ha, sounds like a song…a really bad song) last year right around the same time. I think a broken wrist is worse but it sounds like you have a great support in your family.

Thanks so much for stopping by Barbara. Be well.

      Happy Holidays.

  7. I really like this – very welcoming! Thanks for posting
