8 fabulous farmhouse kitchen lighting ideas.

If you’ve been following along the last several weeks, then you know I’ve been working on my combination kitchen and dining area. I recently finished the dining area and shared it, here, but the kitchen still isn’t done. We didn’t do a lot of work in here besides adding the reclaimed wood shelves and painting the walls, but the kitchen lighting definitely needed to be addressed.

We have 3 can lights and one ceiling light in this space. The can lights are fine but the ugly florescent ceiling light definitely need an upgrade. This was a project we were going to tackle during the kitchen remodel, but the dislike of the light was too great. It had to go.  We weren’t sure what we would find underneath but, once it was down, there was no way it was going back up.

I cleaned the ceiling where the old light was and, after checking all of the wiring, we filled in the holes and patched them up. It’s hard to patch a ceiling, especially this big of an area, but it looks so much better than it did. I’m probably the only person who would notice that it’s been patched so I’m trying to release my perfectionist tendencies and let it go.

Oooommmmm…deep breath…

So, the ceiling is fixed and ready for a new, more modern light. Trouble is, I can’t find anything that I like in the perfect size (that’s in the budget). Our ceilings are pretty low so we need a flush mount that is no more than 12 inches high. Not ideal but you can’t change the ceiling height (yes…I have put some thought into doing that 😉 ). 3 light fixtures have been ordered, delivered and returned over the past several weeks…all failures.

I’ve looked at tons of light fixtures so I thought I’d share some that I considered.

4 flush mount kitchen lighting fixtures

I’m waiting on my fourth light fixture to be delivered. Let’s hope it’s “the one” so I can move show you the ceiling without a gaping hole in it. 😉 Fingers crossed.

What do you think about flush mount kitchen lighting? Do you have a favorite out of the 8 fixtures I shared?

As always, thanks for stopping in.

In case you missed it, here is the finished dining area that is part of the unfinished kitchen.

  1. Working on the same issue! Options are limited. I did see one that is a fluorescent light but with soft polished nickel around it. I think I like your options better! I to can’t wait to see the finished product!

  2. Love these light fixtures. The price not bad at all. Thank you.

  3. I am going through the same situation…I need to replace lighting in my nook and kitchen and I want something cottagey, farm house, lake house look if there is even such a thing! Haha I really like your choices. I like 3,4, and 7…I might have to look at those for my house but I need a longer neck on them to hang above my kitchen sink. Right now I have an old fashioned crystal one hanging above the sink and an antique crystal chandelier over my table but I am thinking I want to change the look now. Always changing things up around here. Good luck on your choices. I love how your chandelier looks above your table! Great choice!

    1. Thanks Karin! I know what you mean about always changing things up. It’s never-ending. 😉 There’s so many beautiful lighting choices out there. Hope you are able to find the perfect one for your space.

Thanks so much for stopping in.

I personally like #2 (I have a similar one) and #4. I would stay away from the opened iron lights only because it gets greasy in the kitchen and it may be a chore keeping them clean. I have enjoyed your blogs and I can’t wait to see the completed house. Good luck!

    1. It’s interesting to hear what others pick as their favorite. Good point about the open fixture. I’m a clean freak so that would drive me crazy. 😉 Thanks for weighing in. I finally got my fourth fixture. Hopefully it’s the last. 🙂

  5. Light fixtures are always so hard to choose. You really never know until they’re up. Well, I don’t anyway. You have a great eye, I am sure whatever you pick will be perfect.

    1. I’m the same way with choosing a light fixture. I make the hubs stand there holding it up while I check it from all angles. Yup…fun times. 😉

  6. Looks great! Where did you get your chair covers? Very nice!!!

    1. Thanks so much, Nancy. The chair covers are from Pottery Barn. Unfortunately, they don’t offer these same chairs or covers anymore.

  7. My dilemma has, and always will be, with my husband. When I suggest a change in light fixtures he always has a negative comment. He is very practical and if the light works, it stays. So I have given up on trying to get him to see my way. On the rare times that I have convinced him to make a change he has agreed with me that it looks better, what ever it is, such as painting a room a different color, or new curtains. After 52 years of marriage I have started to not push back, as it seems less important in our lives now… 😉 But I do like to see what ideas you come up with, they are so wonderful and fresh. I love your style.

    1. Awww, thanks so much Susan. It’s so nice to hear that you enjoy my blog.

Believe me, I understand the husband thing. My husband is supportive but getting him to agree to one of my suggestions or ideas isn’t easy (what is it with men? 😉 ). I’ve learned to listen to my gut and do it myself (or I bug him until he can’t say no).

Thanks for visiting with me, Susan. I hope you’re having a great weekend.

  8. I like five and eight, fun…but I would like seven in your kitchen as it is pretty, simple, clean looking and will co-exist well with the cool wood dining room light fixture. Looking great around there:)

    1. Thanks Jillian. I like your favorites. 🙂 I’m hoping the next one will be it. I’m crossing my fingers (and toes). Thanks for visiting and weighing in.

  9. I feel your dilemma. I am struggling to find the right light fixture for my quilt and art studio. Are you going to show us the three, maybe four rejects you tried? I am not a fan of flush mount lights but they are a necessary thing in most kitchens I could afford. LOL I hope number four attempt works out for you. Have a great weekend.

    1. Ugh…picking light fixtures is the worst. I want something that doesn’t look cheap but I don’t want it to break the bank. I’ll get there. I’m on a mission now. 😉
