I’m not sure if I’m more excited about spending less than $50 for our hallway redo or the fact that I’ve completed the first space in our new house, but it’s definitely a happy day here. I didn’t think I would be able to do anything until my feet were completely healed but this little hallway redo was easy and it was enough of a change that it satisfied my need to redo a room…for the moment anyway. Throw in the fact that it didn’t break the bank and you have the perfect project (and one happy hubs, because he’s always thrilled when a project doesn’t cost a lot).

Here is where we started…

This is looking toward the master bedroom, with the bathroom on the right and the living room and dining room to the left. Most of the house was painted with SW Navajo White and it looks yellow in almost every room, which isn’t bad but it’s really not my style.

new house reveal 2There were a couple of huge holes in the walls from a smoke detector that was mounted in the middle of the wall (who does that?) and an old alarm system that didn’t work, so they were removed and the walls were patched. We, and when I say “we” I mean me, also wanted to change the vintage ceiling light for something bigger that would light up this dim space.

The ceiling and trim were painted by the previous owners right before they put the house on the market in May, so I didn’t need to touch them. Once the walls were prepped, it was time for the good stuff…paint. I stuck with a light gray for this space and chose Benjamin Moore Horizon, a beautiful gray/blue. It was my first time using this color and I love how it turned out.

I hung family photos in the hallway in our last house in Illinois and knew that I would probably do it here as well. This is really the only space in the house where I can put all of my favorites together. It’s my happy space filled with great memories of our girls.

We removed the old light and put up the brass fixture that I had in my entryway in our last house. It was a great find from ReStore and I snagged it for $20. I’m adding some brass touches to the bathroom so I thought that repeating it in the hallway would tie the two spaces together.

I was slightly nervous about hanging so much in this small space but I really love it.

We’ve been in our new house for about a month and it’s been a whirlwind of unpacking boxes and trying to figure out what to do in each room. I’ve been itching to tackle a project that I could do with my broken foot, and our small hallway seemed like a good place to start.

I thought we had a small hallway in our Illinois house but this one beats it by a mile. It’s small and dark, which is a tough combo to work with.

Here is the hallway from our last house, after it was painted for the second time.

Do you have a small hallway? Here are some inspiring hallway decorating ideas for your small space. chatfieldcourt.comThe hallway in the new house connects our living room to the bathroom, master bedroom and guest bedroom. It may be a tiny, dark space, but it’s an important piece of real estate, and one that shouldn’t be ignored. So knowing that I had a challenge, I did what I always do when I have a tough space to decorate…search the internet. There’s tons of inspiring hallway decorating ideas out there and I thought I’d share some of my favorites.

Gallery walls are always a great idea, even in a small space, and look at that dark wall.

What about a fun, bold wallpaper for a small hallway?

If wallpaper isn’t your thing, why not go dramatic with paint.

Or you could go with a simple style. There’s no rule that says you have to have pictures on your walls.

Which is your favorite?

I just have a few small tweaks to make and our hallway will be ready for it’s debut. Can’t wait to share it.

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s a video tour of our new house.

I have been busy painting and decorating my rooms since we moved in last July, the bathroom, the living/dining/entry, the master bedroom, and now our little hallway. I really painted this in December after I painted the living room, but I just finished putting up some pictures and I thought I would share what I did with this small space.

Like I said, this is a really small space (and taking pictures of it is nearly impossible). There are 5 doors in this hallway that go to the 3 bedrooms, the bathroom and the linen closet, and an archway that goes into the living room.  I ended up painting the ceiling Benjamin Moore White Dove in pearl finish and painting the walls Benjamin Moore Thunder, the same color as the living room. I was going to use a lighter version of Thunder, but in the end I decided to keep it all the same since the spaces are so small (I didn’t want there to be too much going on with different paint colors). I also painted all of the trim and doors in BM White Dove.

I bought one lantern and it was damaged so they sent me another one and told me to keep the damaged one (the second, undamaged one hangs over my dining table here). I fixed it up and painted it and you can’t tell where the damage is. I will eventually find something else since it’s a little large for the space, but it’s a lot better than the old boob light.

You can see that I don’t have a lot of room for decoration and no space for standing furniture, so I ended up hanging pictures of our family and some personal art done by our girls. It makes me happy to walk by and see things they made for and gave to me everyday!

As you can see, not all of the door knobs are changed yet so there are brass ones and ORB ones. I am slowly changing them to ORB when I redo each room.
