DBS and Essential Tremor

I know I haven’t posted on the blog in a while so I wanted to share a little bit about what’s been going on. Just recently, January 9, 2025, I had brain surgery to implant a Deep Brain Stimulator, and on January 30, 2025, I had a second surgery to connect the 2 leads in my brain to a stimulator unit that was implanted in my chest.

I have been suffering from Essential Tremor, which is an incurable neurological condition, for 20 years. Essential Tremor can affect your hands, legs, head and voice. My main issue has been tremors in my hands. These past 3 years the tremors have rapidly progressed to the point where I haven’t been able to do the work I love to do, in the way that I need to do it. Beyond that, even normal day to day tasks have become very difficult to do.

After exhausting all other avenues over several years, I made the difficult decision to try to control the tremors with surgery. I am at home now and still recovering. As it turns out DBS surgery is a long game. I have to put in some recovery time before the Drs. will turn on the unit and it will take some time to get the program dialed in, but the hope is that I will have little to no tremors in my hands.

So that means that I won’t be doing any kind of projects for a while. I’m hoping, once I’m feeling a bit better, to post about some of the projects that I’ve done but haven’t shared, so please check back.

As always, I appreciate your support and my family and I still need all the prayers we can get as we continue to navigate this. I will update you as I move further into my recovery.
