Decorate the Top of an Armoire

Even though I’ve had “kitchen reno on the brain” I’ve also been doing the “decor shuffle”. You know that thing you do when you want to make some small changes to your rooms?

That’s what I call the decor shuffle. Anyway, with winter in full swing here, I just felt like some change and I started with the bedroom armoire.

I’ve been trying to find the right pieces for the top of the armoire in our bedroom for about a year and I think I finally found what I was looking for…at least for a while.

There’s no shortage of inspiration online to help you gather ideas and what I learned is that you want pieces that aren’t too small (they’ll get lost on a tall piece of furniture) and you don’t want too much clutter.

Love this look with the warmth of the wood tray behind the picture.

Pretty and simple is a good way to go, like this basket with dried flowers and clock.

How about using a collection like these beautiful green demijohns.

This is how I decorated the top of the master bedroom armoire. I used two demijohns and the pic is from my house in Florida.

I took it out of the much smaller frame it came in and used a larger mat and frame, instant new picture.

Simple but each piece is large enough to see and it’s all very much my style.

Do you find yourself doing the “decor shuffle” to chase away the winter blues?

Now that the “shuffle” is done in the master bedroom, I’m going to get back to my kitchen cabinets. 🙂

  1. Love what you’ve done. May I ask the armoire that has the clock above it with the soft grass in the wicker bowl, did you paint the armoire and if you did would you be so kind as to share what the colour is that was used.
    Would so appreciate that info
    Kind regards

    1. Hi Gracie. The armoire with the clock above it is beautiful but it isn’t mine. I linked to the author in my post. It belongs to Cloth and Patina if you want to email her to get the info. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

      1. I saw this piece and loved it too! Did you ever find out what colors were used on the armoire? Thanks!!

  2. Love your style! Warm and cozy but clean lines and classic designs. Perfect combination! Thanks for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop at Katherine’s Corner. Looking forward to seeing what you share this week at the hop! Nina @ Vintage Mama’s Cottage

I don’t know why but I have never thought about putting something up there but it totally makes sense! Plus! I am always looking for places to display my new found projects. Problem solved! Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Glad my post inspired you Brittany! What a great way to showcase your new found projects. 🙂

  5. I don’t have an armoire to decorate, but if I did, these are some great ideas 🙂

  6. Love how these look! I have a collection of glass bottles I keep meaning to do something with, but most of them are interesting liquor bottles, which means I have to be SUPER creative in how to use them without giving off the “yay we drank way too much booze!” look. :p

  7. Love your inspiration pics and the clean and simple look you went with for your armoire. I have one tall and skinny piece of furniture which is a dark wood and glass and houses all the crystal my MIL handed down to me. I have two large brown jugs on top of it that I picked up at a garage sale for $5 bucks. .,
I can’t say that I have ever shuffled anything. I have enough trouble “styling” shelves, tables etc and can never get it to look right.

    1. Hi Shirlee. So great to hear from you. 🙂 I have times when I feel that I can’t get a look right too. The armoire was one of them but I’m happy with it for now. I don’t like a lot of “stuff” so trying to style a piece without having a lot of clutter can be a challenge.

Thanks so much for dropping by.

  8. Such great inspiration! Makes me definitely want to have an armoire now to decorate.

    1. Thanks Deb. There is so much great inspiration out there. So glad you stopped by today! Have a great week.

  9. Kristi, I love the photo with the flowers in the vase. So simple, yet so classy. I do like the way yours is decorated too. I have the top my hutch to decorate. Haven’t decided yet what to do. It has a big hump in the center so I can only put things on each side. Hmm, I’ll have to do some internet searching.

    1. That’s my favorite one too MJ, I think it is the simplicity and the use of color and texture. It would be great to have real live flowers like that all the time…I’d just settle for a live green plant at this point. 😉

Have a great week my friend.
