Happy Friday! Only 5 days until Christmas. Gahhh! I am so not ready and my daughter and her partner arrive tomorrow from Denver. My youngest will come home on Christmas eve, so we will all be together again for the Holidays (2011 is the last Christmas we were all together). To say I’m excited is an understatement. I’m so looking forward to spending time together making new memories, reminiscing about past years, and enjoying the Holidays, so I am stepping away from the computer, at least while they are here. I did want to share one last post though, about decorating for the season when you don’t have a mantel.
This is the first time in 20 years that I don’t have a mantel to decorate and hang our stockings on. It’s kind of funny that I had a fireplace in hot, sunny Florida and I now live in cold, wintry Illinois, and I don’t have one. Actually, it sucks. I really wanted a fireplace but when you’re buying a house, you sometimes have to make concessions. Unfortunately, the fireplace was my concession. Things could be worse…we have a roof over our head and heat to keep us warm, all is good.
When I started decorating for Christmas, I wasn’t sure what to do with our stockings, so I started scouting Pinterest. I know that there are many of us non mantel/fireplace folks out there, so I thought I’d share some of the great ideas I found.

And this is what I did with my stockings this year. I know, not very creative, but with all of the painting and decorating I’ve been doing these past 5 months, my creativity is a little low right now. Hopefully next year when things have calmed down a bit, I can really concentrate on new ways to decorate for Christmas.
So how would you hang your stockings if you didn’t have a mantel?
I’m off to make some good old chocolate chip cookies, at the request of my oldest. I want to wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, and hope that you get to spend it with those that you love.
